These 4 leaders are committed to clean, democratic, secular, value-based politics and have been leading the struggles for the social justice and human rights for a longtime. Members and friends of Praja Rajakiya Vedike are actively campaigning for these candidates. We want to see these candidates get into the next Karnataka Assembly so that the concerns of the poor, workers, women, dalits, adivasis, backward classes, religious minorities and other marginalised sections of the society are met. We appeal to the people to join hands with us in campaigning for these candidates.
Brief information about:
Dr BT Lalitha Naik: Kannada Sahitya Academy winner and a social worker, Dr Naik, was awarded a honorary doctorate by Kuvempu University. She has written over 16 books and most of her writings were on Humanity, Equality, Social Exploitation, Social Justice and Social Services. These writings motivated her to join electoral politics and she joined Janatha Party and served as a member of Legislative Council (1986-1992). She also served as a Minister of Kannada and Culture and Women and Child Welfare department from 1994-1999.
Saathi Sundaresh: Hailing from a Dalit Colony in Hesagal Village of Mudigere taluk and finishing his Civil Engineering, Sundaresh took part in various people’s movements since 1998. He actively led the Baaguru Navile farmers’ struggle which went on for 94 days. His active participation saw the struggle intensify and he was arrested for 9 days. He was part of Coffee Plantation workers’ struggle in Dec 2000 and other struggles against Illegal Mining, corruption and displacement of tribals and forest dwellers. He succeeded in introducing low-cost toilets with the support of Vimukthi, an NGO in Muttikatte village. The project was recognised and appreciated by UNESCO.
Vijayasingh R. David: The 58-year old Vijay Singh R David (Roy David) was born in Sontikoppa but after getting higher education in organic farming in Japan, he returned to Kodagu and has been working with for the uplift of the adivasis and poor forest dwellers for over three decades. He was active in the struggle for Land reforms in Bantwal taluk and led the struggle demanding self-governance and initiation of Adivasi Panchayat Act at the national level. He continued to work with other traditional forest dwellers and marginalised groups like Kodava, Gowda, Iri, Kudiya, Nayaka, Billava, Kapala, Pale, Kembatta and others tribes to get their rights.
K. Nagabhushana Rao: A lawyer by profession, K Nagabhusan Rao has worked as a District secretary of the party and was part of various social movements right from his student days. He largely contributed towards the fight against illegal mining, for nationalization of mining, protection of environment and labour rights. He had successfully organized protests and rallies to fight against mining thieves who occupied the land from Chaganur farmers, and the land acquisition of Hampi Kannada University. He was also exposed the staff selection scam of Krishnadevaraya University in Bellary. He played a vital role in considering Bellary as part of Hyderabad Karnataka region.
We appeal to Karnataka voters to:
Vote against communal forces including BJP and KJP
Not to sell your votes for money, liquor and others inducements
Support candidates who are not-corrupt, secular and committed to economic/gender/social justice
